The Town is planning a major reconstruction of 106 Street between 99 Avenue and 100 Avenue.

This project begins with underground infrastructure renewal, work necessary to address ageing pipes and reduce service disruptions, and will also introduce new streetscaping and design improvements that will change how this area looks and functions.

What this project is

Replacement of ageing underground infrastructure
Streetscaping to improve accessibility and public space
A multi-year planned capital investment

This section of 106 Street contains the last remaining undersized cast-iron water main in the community. It is an ageing piece of infrastructure that has reached the end of its useful life and has contributed to:

Frequent water main breaks
Service interruptions for nearby properties
Emergency repairs that are disruptive and costly
Replacing this infrastructure is part of the Town’s ongoing, long-term infrastructure renewal program.

Replacing the water main and upgrading the sanitary and storm systems will:

Reduce water main failures and unplanned service interruptions
Improve system reliability and fire flow capacity
Address localized drainage issues
Extend the service life of the roadway and surrounding infrastructure

Once underground work is complete, the project will move into streetscaping and surface improvements a new phase that will change the look and feel of the street.

Planned streetscaping improvements include:

Improved accessibility, with barrier-free sidewalks, curb ramps, and safer pedestrian crossings designed to modern accessibility standards
A more pedestrian-friendly street, including widened sidewalks, decorative lighting, trees, and street furniture
Flexible public gathering spaces that can support community events such as the Light-Up Parade, summer festivals, and markets

Improved parking, including additional off-street parking, expanded Town-owned parking lots, better drainage, and more accessible parking spaces
